The Province of Palawan is a destination in the Philippines that should definitely be on your list of must-visit islands. Its major attractions include its capital, Puerto Princesa, Coron and El Nido, which boast some of the most spectacular beaches you will ever step foot on. Turquoise blue waters, ultra fine white sand, the freshest air and beautiful locals… this trifecta of Philippine beaches is truly on a par with—or we dare say, even better than—the likes of the Caribbean islands and Maldives.

All three towns of Palawan are equally beautiful and unique, and while we urge you to visit each one of them, our Caveman island for the summer goes to the charming Coron, and we give you the rundown as to why this is so:

A safari experience

Have you heard of Coron’s Calauit Safari Park? It’s a wildlife sanctuary that can go toe-to-toe with an African safari—you can get up close with the zebras and even feed some of the giraffes! Calauit is a four-hour boat ride away from the main town of Busuanga. It may be a long and somewhat wavy journey, but it’s all worth it because the experience is surreal.

It’s full of secrets

…secret islands, that is. Coron has a bunch of islands around it, and if you’re going on a boat tour, they will bring you to some of them and serve you lunch. Chances are these islands are empty, so it looks like you have a private beach to yourself. Sometimes these islands hold secret caves too! Perfect to take those photos—maybe pull an Aubrey and Troy with your lady? *wink*

Gorgeous views everywhere

The distance between the islands are pretty far, but you won’t get bored as you go island hopping because you will be treated to the views of some magnificent limestone cliffs. You will stare in awe and not mind the length of the boat rides at all.

Island hopping is mad fun here

Coron’s beaches are famous for their pretty corals, and if you’re on tour, chances are you will go to some snorkeling sites where you can marvel at the beauty of what’s underneath the waters. Siete Pecados is one of them. So don’t forget your GoPro because you’re going to want to take snaps of everything you’ll see!

It’s got the cleanest lake in the country

Kayangan Lake is a clear and opulent blue lake enclosed in limestone cliffs. It’s got endless water underneath, so it’s advised to wear a life vest while swimming in it. Before you reach the lake, you will need to hike your way up then down a limestone cliff, but (hopefully) you won’t be tired once you reach your destination. There is also an area wherein you can take the perfect photo that encapsulates Coron, just like the one above.

Moreover, especially if you’re staying in Busuanga, the town of Coron, you can experience nightlife and good restos around. Coron, I think, is best traveled to with your closest buddies, guys and girls alike. There are direct flights to Busuanga from Manila, so what are you waiting for? This is the summer getaway you all need!
